In 1992, the Sandpoint community was introduced to Natural Fitness Gym by now retired owner Tim Martin. Twenty-five years later—and now with two locations to choose from—Natural Fitness Gym continues to offer its members the best in service, support and amenities to reach your full potential.
Current owners Shawn and Kasey Martin are dedicated to serving their members and work tirelessly to ensure that their service and their support meet their members’ needs. “We want members to not feel intimidated walking in the door,” says Shawn. “We are here to help and make them feel a part of something positive.”
He adds: “Kasey and I jokingly quote the movie Dodgeball in saying we are Average Joe’s Gym, and we honestly like it that way. When members walk in, they step into our home, and we want them to feel welcomed as such. We take a lot of pride in what we created.”
The couple strives to offer the community the best gym around; it’s that simple. Offerings at Natural Fitness Gym include 24-hour access, the largest selection of equipment in the area, cardio, tanning, full-use locker rooms, saunas, Silver&Fit and Tivity Senior Programs, multiple lines of supplement products and, of course, Shawn and Kasey’s smiling faces.
In 2015, the pair had the opportunity to purchase Cor24 in Ponderay, and they did, knowing it would benefit their club members to have a second Natural Fitness Gym location to work out. After Shawn and Kasey purchased the business, it was important for them to keep the original feel of the space, making only minor changes to incorporate a bit of “Natural” into the mix. Both gyms maintain their own look and feel. Just recently, they acquired the remaining half of the building, formerly Zandoozles. This was yet another opportunity to add what they felt was lacking from the existing gym.
Now the gym offers 5,600 square feet, with a large selection of free weights and 14 pieces of selectorized equipment where weight is selected by setting a pin instead of loading plates. Locker rooms have also been expanded to accommodate the larger space and future members.
The Martins are in this business due to their desire to help people; to help them transform themselves and achieve their goals. Another perk is that they enjoy nurturing personal relationships with their members, noting that they have formed many friendships, most of which are like family to them.
When not at work, the couple enjoys spending time at home with their family. In addition, it is important for Shawn and Kasey to not only offer their support to their members but their community as well. “We are very big into helping our local people and businesses,” Shawn says. They help with local auctions and donation drives and have been a longtime sponsor of the Relay for Life.
