Since 1973, Sandpoint Super Drug has been serving the local community and beyond. Founded by John Porter more than four decades ago, this family owned and operated pharmacy has been offering its customers impeccable service since day one. With a knowledgeable staff and friendly service, Sandpoint Super Drug is ready to serve you.
The store was built based upon the principle of family values and individual care for each customer, and service and low price remain as the core of what John established all those years ago.
Scott Porter, R.Ph., Pharm.D, John’s son and current owner, grew up around the store and started working at the Sandpoint Super Drug when in the seventh grade. He decided to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a pharmacist, pursuing an advanced doctorate in pharmacology. He chose to return to Sandpoint in 1999 to raise his own family and serve the many long-term customers who have come to love the eclectic nature of Super Drug.
“I loved Sandpoint growing up and always knew that I would be back at some point in my life,” says Scott. “I later bought in as an owner in 2007 with my father.”
The local community has always been in the heart of John, Scott and the entire staff. In addition to being the largest pharmacy in North Idaho, Super Drug has a vast greeting card section, hardware department, kitchen and home furnishings section. Over the past 15 years, they have also established one of the leading nutrition centers in the country, where Scott offers free nutrition consultations on a walk-in basis and provides exceptional quality clinical-grade supplements.
In recent years, Scott has expanded his local efforts into working with independent pharmacists around the country, serving as the medical director of a national consulting program that trains and educates independent pharmacists on the value and importance of clinical nutrition in a small town pharmacy setting.
Scott is a rare breed of pharmacist. He comfortably helps customers understand the value of both prescription drugs and natural nutritional supplements. You will find him working hard behind the pharmacy counter filling prescriptions and still come out from behind the counter to offer his advice on how to optimize health, all while making time to speak with colleagues around the country wanting to learn about clinical nutrition.
Scott’s knowledge has come from direct personal experience supporting the nutritional and dietary needs of himself and his family. Customers will often find him fasting or trying out a new detoxification protocol and sharing this knowledge openly through seminars, talks and weekly articles.
When it comes to what Scott finds most rewarding about the work he does, he says, “Helping others and having them come back saying what I recommended really worked/helped them. Listening to patients and their problems and finding solutions to their health and well-being. Also having patients and customers remark about my knowledge base and exceptional customer service on products and recommendations.”
Scott credits his father, who recently passed away, as the inspiration and success behind Sandpoint Super Drug. “He made it from scratch to what it is today. Everything I have learned regarding operating Sandpoint Super Drug I learned from my father.”
Sandpoint Super Drug is deeply invested in the local community outside of the store as well, as they are active in the Fairgrounds, Festival at Sandpoint, Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce and Bulldog Bench. They sponsor almost all activities within Bonner County either with advertising, donations or gift items.
Open 361 days a year, Scott and the rest of the Sandpoint Super Drug team are ready to share their knowledge and provide you with the best service you’ll find anywhere.
