Born from a 2020 Sandpoint High School graduate, Bigger Brain LLC and its Smart in Style collection launches on Kickstarter November 11, emphasizing empowerment, style, and education.
“With Bigger Brain, I aim to inspire generations to come that intelligence is not to be camouflaged. It should be proudly and positively wielded to improve our world, our communities, and our lives,” commented founder, Sage Saccomanno, “My clothing line simultaneously provides comfortable style and educates.”
Its initial product line, Smart in Style, focuses on empowering young individuals that being smart is cool, stylish and focuses on creating positive change in the world.
Bigger Brain Story
Growing up, Sage was always committed to her education, but as she went through high school, she consistently felt the pressure to mask her intelligence in order to be deemed "cool". “I didn’t want to be made fun of, and I wanted to fit in,” said Saccomanno.
Once she got to Bard college, she found herself in an environment of like-minded individuals who were pursuing higher education. With this new support, she discovered her passion for science, particularly chemistry, streetwear fashion, and an even more intense drive to positively support people and communities.
The idea behind the brand emerged through Sage's love for education and fashion.
While in college, Sage developed a love for streetwear fashion while at the same time growing her devotion for knowledge. With these two passions, Sage was inspired to make being smart cool. Bigger Brain was then born.
Bigger Brain LLC. focuses on the empowerment of young individuals in their pursuit of higher education. It aims to inspire generations to come that intelligence is something to be proud of. In addition, Bigger Brain is committed to students. This brand is one founded by students for students. The founder is a college student. The artist, Lulu Kirmani is a studio arts major at Bard College. The models are all current students at Bard. The videographers and photographers are all students at Bard as well.
“In the Bigger Brain community we strive to bring each other up, not down, and with that I am extremely proud to say all artwork, media and ideas have come from students,” commented Sage.
Smart in Style Collection
The focus of this opening collection is to highlight some of the primary chemicals that human brains require. There are five different designs: serotonin, dopamine, glutamate, melatonin, and norepinephrine. Each shirt comes with an informational card educating the buyer on the different aspects of the chemicals featured.
As well, Bigger Brain is committed to providing sustainable, ethical clothing that is meant to last in partnership with its manufacturer Known Supply. The products are 100% organic cotton handmade by individuals who receive livable wages, healthy work environments and other resources outside of work to help them and their families in life. Each individual product is hand-signed by its maker.
With this, Bigger Brain aims to breach the gap between makers and shoppers, the problem that fast fashion has made so evident in our everyday lives.
When the campaign launches on November 11, there will be a limited edition collection named “The First 50,” with individually numbered shirts and a special surprise printed on them as well. These will represent the first 50 shirts ever to be made by Bigger Brain. This collection is first come, first serve, and will not be restocked ever again.
Kickstarter Campaign
“Backing a project is more than just giving someone money. It's supporting their dream to create something that they want to see exist in the world, “ commented Kickstarter on its website. Kickstarter is a trusted platform for crowdfunding. Every project creator sets their projects funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
Bigger Brain’s goal is to reach nearly $28,000. The campaign breaks down its budget and why it needs this amount. The campaign will run for a little under two months starting November 11 and ending December 31. Bigger Brain will be celebrating the start of the campaign with a launch party involving all of Bard College. This event will also be streamed on Bigger Brain’s instagram (@biggerbrain.co).
