Bonner Partners in Care: Bridging Sandpoint’s Healthcare Gap

Financial aid for diagnostics, labs, and specialty care for the uninsured and underinsured

Since 2003, Bonner Partners in Care (BPIC) has been a lifeline for the uninsured and underinsured. Supported by local businesses, healthcare providers, and community members, this non-profit is focused on making healthcare accessible for those who can’t afford it. From starting as an in-patient clinic to now operating as a granting organization, BPIC continues to evolve to meet the community's changing needs.

BPIC is focused on helping people with diagnostic services, lab work, medications, and specialty care costs. With a primary care provider referral, individuals can access these services, ensuring that financial barriers don’t prevent them from accessing essential care.

"At BPIC, we’re committed to helping our patients access the care they need," explains Chryl McCarty, Executive Director of BPIC. “We’ve partnered with local medical organizations, including Bonner General Health, White Cross Pharmacy, Sandpoint Super Drug, and the Panhandle Health District, to ensure we can offer assistance for diagnostic services, medications, and more.”

"Bonner General Health has been an incredible partner," shares McCarty. “With their sliding scale and the BGH Cares Program, we can provide more comprehensive patient support.”

Bonner Partners in Care (BPIC) also assists in lab work, covering all lab fees ordered by the patient's primary care provider. BPIC also offers financial aid for medications, further easing the burden on those in need.

Beyond diagnostic and medication services, BPIC helps with medical supplies, including blood pressure cuffs and LED lights for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The organization also covers specialist consultations up to $100 for the initial consultation. These services are necessary for most patients to manage chronic health conditions, enhance their well-being, and access required treatments.

"We want to be there for our patients when they need us most," McCarty says."Whether offering financial support for lab testing or helping cover the cost of a specialist consultation, we’re here to ensure that no one in our community misses out on the care they need due to cost."

Local businesses and medical providers are important to BPIC’s success, offering the support needed to help the organization serve the community. Private donors and granting organizations also contribute financial resources that allow BPIC to carry out its mission. BPIC is extremely grateful to 101 Women, Community Assistance League, Innovia Foundation, Angels Over Sandpoint, and Selkirk Realtors for their support over the years.

Looking to the future, BPIC is dedicated to serving Sandpoint’s residents in need. BPIC is ready to adapt to meet the community’s evolving healthcare needs, ensuring specialty care remains accessible for those who need it most.

“Our goal has always been to eliminate barriers in healthcare. While we’ve seen some positive changes in our community with the Medicaid expansion, the need for specialty care has only grown,” McCarty emphasizes. “We’re committed to serving our patients and ensuring that healthcare is within reach for everyone, regardless of their financial situation, to increase quality

of life.”
